R.E. Staite Engineering Inc. is installing fender piles from a waterside crane barge, commencing on the B Chevron Pier, Embarcadero Wharf Broadway Street Pier, Fish Harbor Pier, Crosby Pier and Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal B through Dec. 28. The crane barge performing this work and all tugs towing the material and equipment barges to and from these sites will monitor VHF-FM CH-16. SANTA BARBARA - A Thanksgiving weekend joyride in a 27-foot sportfisher was cut short when a boat theft suspect reportedly had to call authorities for help, after the vessel broke down. The suspect - Bryan Risdon, 25, of Carpinteria - is accused of taking the 27-foot Radon sportfisher Jan Marie out of Santa Barbara Harbor for a cruise with two friends. SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Harbor Police demonstrated how a new device for harnessing water from tugboat pumps and an arrangement with the Navy will help local agencies extinguish fires, should traditional water sources be cut off in an emergency. Local officials - including Michael Bixler, vice chairman of the San Diego Board of Port Commissioners, and Chief Kirk Sanfilippo of the San Diego Harbor Police - along with firefighters from the San Diego Harbor Police, the Federal Fire Department, the National City Fire Department, the Chula Vista Fire Department and the Coronado Fire Department, gathered at the National City Marina Terminal Sept. 4 to see how multiple agencies will be able to share water resources at the port.
